Theatre for Everyone
On our stage, we regularly stage productions and guest performances from the independent theatre scene. A variety of troupes and artists bring their work to the Schlachthof, transforming it into a vibrant venue for contemporary theatre in Bremen. A programme for everyone that regularly showcases new artists and collectives.
Our children’s programme has been delighting young audiences for many years and is very popular, not just at Christmas time. It’s a brilliant opportunity for children to have their first taste of the theatre, and a lovely reunion for adults who are still fans of Pettersson and Findus or other characters.
To be on stage yourself
In our theatre courses for children and young people, young people can explore their potential. They slip into different roles, develop characters and stories, get to know various forms of theatre and discover together just what is possible on stage.
Alongside regular courses and workshops, larger-scale theatre productions involving young people are regularly staged. Over an extended period, the participants work closely together, develop a play and bring it to the stage. It’s not just about acting and the final performance: the young people contribute their own ideas and themes, take on responsibility and experience how a group and many individual thoughts come together to create a shared production.
A venue for the independent theatre scene
The Theaterwerkstatt is also an important venue for work and production within the independent theatre scene in Bremen and the surrounding area. We aim to support artists and groups in bringing their ideas to the stage. To this end, we provide spaces and technical facilities where possible, and support projects with conceptual, organisational and dramaturgical guidance.
This fosters encounters between the professional independent scene, emerging artists, young theatre-makers and our audience.
